A Ministry Training Program
THE SACRED ART OF SPIRITUAL DIRECTION:
Veneta Lorraine, MA, D.Min. cand.

The purpose of this two year training program is to discern the presence in an individual the gift for the ministry of Spiritual Direction, to develop a contemplative approach for listening to others, and to teach the basic skills needed for a compassionate, listening presence to the spiritual experience of others. During quarterly 2 day sessions, skills are taught, reflected upon, and processed within the group. Bi-weekly supervision sessions invite the participant to reflect upon their personal dynamic as s/he engage with others. Through prayer, supervision, and personal evaluations one learns to listen deeply to the Spirit of the Living God within oneself and within others.

• Teaching the skill for the ministry "
• Practicing spirituality "
• Supervision "
• Discussion and evaluation

Requirements include:

• Participation in quarterly 2 1/2 day sessions
• Meeting with spiritual directees
• Meeting with a supervisor bi-weekly

Some desired background:

• A personal prayer practice
• A sense of being called
• A current ongoing experience of personal spiritual direction

This training is moving toward accreditation by Barry University.
